When You Like What God Says

When you like what God says, He may not be talking to you. The Bible is written to two kinds of people, lost ones and saved ones. If you have not received Jesus, you need to give heed to the parts of the Bible that God aims at you, not the parts that are aimed at saved people. If you have received Jesus, you need to give more heed to the parts of His Word that God aims at you, not the parts that are aimed at lost people. Whether you are saved or lost, parts of the Bible are TO you and parts of the Bible are FOR you. You need to know the difference. Dr. J. Vernon McGee said that All of the Bible is for you but not all of the Bible is to you.

John 3:7: Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

That verse is TO individuals that have not been born again. It is only FOR individuals that have been born again. Two of God*s purposes for the Bible are to convince lost people that they are lost and saved people that they are saved.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

That verse is TO individuals who have received Jesus and it is only FOR those who have not received Him. Individuals do not ask the Lord to save them who do not believe that they are lost. Knowing that they are lost is the predecessor of salvation. Lostness is the fertile field where faith can germinate and grow. There is nothing good in the Bible for lost individuals until it convinces them that they are lost. Convincing them that they are lost and need to receive Jesus is the first good thing and the only important thing the Bible does for them.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The opposing truth of that verse is that whosoever shall NOT call upon the name of the Lord shall NOT be saved. If you have not asked Him to save you, you are not saved. You should ask Him to save you right now.

When we receive Jesus something happens to us that reverses our polarity. The verses in the Bible that were to us are now for us, and the verses that were for us are now to us. And we increasingly understand that God*s purposes for us are more important than our own. One of the goals of people who have not received Jesus is to feel good about themselves. It becomes increasingly natural for people who have received Jesus to feel good about HIM.

Lost people can sometimes find the Bible useful for their own purposes. The Bible makes saved people useful for God*s purposes. Are you seeking your own purposes or God*s purposes? Are your own purposes most important to you or are God*s purposes more important to you? People don*t like to learn from the Bible that they are lost. The more they don*t like what God says, the more they need to hear it.
